East Village Youth Program, Encouraging the visions of young people

Mission and Vision of East Village Youth Program

The mission of East Village Youth Program (EVYP) is to encourage and prepare underserved minority youth in Chicago's near northwest side communities for a college education. A non-profit organization incorporated in 1989, EVYP provides academic and college readiness support services to youth who desire to improve their opportunities for the future through the pursuit of higher education. EVYP serves the needs of young people who face myriad socioeconomic and personal obstacles that prevent them from succeeding academically and aspiring to a college education and professional careers.

EVYP programs foster academic achievement while providing positive developmental experiences that enhance self-esteem, civic and personal responsibility, confidence, maturity, independence and leadership skills. This comprehensive program combines academic enrichment, tutoring, mentoring, school transition support, recreational and cultural activities, community service, parental support and education, and financial assistance.

EVYP is committed to providing the additional support that low-income youth need when striving to reach their goals and fulfill their dreams. It is EVYP's vision that, by furthering their education beyond secondary school, its young people will develop into responsible, discerning adults who will contribute to the betterment of their communities through leadership and service.
